OD Fire Protection was engaged to undertake a campus-wide review and upgrade of fire doors across a large university portfolio.
With hundreds of doors used by students and staff every day, the university needed a dependable, certified provider who could verify legal compliance, carry out corrective work, and introduce a long-term maintenance strategy. The project’s purpose was to strengthen fire safety throughout the estate and ensure every building met the latest UK regulatory standards.
OD Fire Protection was appointed to deliver a full fire door inspection and repair programme across a large university estate.
With more than five hundred fire doors in use daily, the university required a trusted partner to assess compliance, complete essential remedial work, and establish a routine plan for ongoing maintenance. The aim was to raise safety standards across the estate and ensure full alignment with current UK fire-safety regulations.

The university required an upgrade to its fire-door provisions across teaching blocks, student accommodation, and shared facilities. Routine checks identified several fire doors that were worn, non-compliant, or missing up-to-date certification. As a busy campus with high footfall, the university needed a compliant solution delivered with minimal disruption to students and staff.
Comprehensive Fire Door Survey
We inspected all FD30/FD60 doors across lecture theatres, labs, libraries, corridors, and hallways, checking seals, gaps, ironmongery, and self-closing action.
Certified Installations & Repairs
Installed fully tested and certified fire doorsets where replacements were required.
Conducted repairs on serviceable doors, including replacing seals, adjusting closers, and correcting alignment.
Campus-Friendly Scheduling
Works were planned around lecture timetables, exam periods, and accommodation occupancy to avoid disruption. Evening and weekend work was used where necessary.
Handover Documentation
The estates team received full certification packs, survey reports, and recommendations for ongoing maintenance and annual checks.

All fire doors now meet UK standards (BS 8214 and the Fire Safety Order 2005).
Improved compartmentation across academic buildings and student residences.
Safer evacuation routes for staff, students, and visitors.
Strengthened compliance for future safety audits and insurance reviews.
