CARE HOME

OD Fire was appointed to carry out a full evaluation and refurbishment of the fire doors within a privately run care home.

The purpose of the project was to ensure every door met modern fire-safety requirements while remaining appropriate for a setting with vulnerable residents. Once the necessary repair and upgrade works were completed, we introduced an ongoing maintenance schedule to keep the doors operating safely and in full compliance over the long term.

CARE HOME

Capital Fire Doors was brought in to inspect and repair the fire doors at a privately owned care home.

The focus was on ensuring all doors were fully compliant with current fire-safety regulations and suitable for a vulnerable residential environment. After completing the remedial works, we now provide ongoing maintenance to keep every door functioning safely and reliably.

The Challenge

Care home need to improve its fire-safety standards to protect residents, many of whom have limited mobility or require assisted evacuation. Several fire doors were ageing, not closing correctly, or missing full certification. The care home required a compliant, reliable fire-door system that met current UK Fire Safety Regulations and supported a safe evacuation strategy.

Our Solution

  • Fire Door Survey

We inspected all fire doors across bedrooms, corridors, communal areas, and staff zones, checking gaps, seals, frames, and closers.

  • Certified Installations & Repairs

    • Installed new, fully tested FD30/FD60 fire doors where replacement was essential.

    • Repaired suitable doors by replacing seals, adjusting closers, and correcting alignment.

  • Low-Disruption Working

We coordinated with staff to minimise disturbance, working during quiet periods and ensuring safe access to resident areas.

  • Handover Documentation

The care home received full certification, survey findings, and maintenance guidance.

The Result

  • Fully compliant fire doors meeting UK standards (BS 8214, Fire Safety Order 2005).

  • Stronger compartmentation and safer evacuation routes.

  • Increased protection for residents, staff, and visitors.

  • Clear records ready for CQC and audit inspections.
